The Power of Community: Dallas Fitness Ambassadors

One of the best things you can do for yourself and your fitness journey is find a community. I haven’t had the chance to announce here but I am an official Dallas Fitness Ambassador this year. As far as my fitness journey goes, this year will look a little different.

To be completely honest, the last half of 2018 I fell-off hard. When I first joined Crossfit not only did I fall in love with the constantly varied, high intensity but also the community aspect. You can read more about that here.

While I love Crossfit and everything that it’s given me, I just wasn’t feeling it. I would leave the gym and be gassed. I was falling asleep super early some nights and didn't’ get much done. I know I wasn’t taking care of myself how I should have in terms of supplements but I just wasn’t in it anymore. Internally I threw the idea of switching gyms but was scared because comfort and because of my community of friends. However, if I wanted to grow I was going to have to get out of my comfort zone and leave.

DFA opened up applications and I actually answered from the heart. I guess you could say I was in a self discovery period.

My mom had a knee replacement a few years ago and that’s when I truly realized that one day I may need one myself. Arthritis runs in my family and I know if I want to prolong the effects, I have to stay active. Anytime I workout hard or run long distances I think of my mom. I do it for her because I know she can’t.

Out of 300+ applicants Mai Lyn of Deep Fried Fit and founder of Fitness Ambassadors, hand picked me - that’s crazy! So what is Fitness Ambassadors all about? We’re a community of fitness and health influencers creating a space for all to come share in our passion. DFA provides networking opportunities by throwing events and providing opportunities for the local community to participate in different styles of workouts. In a nutshell, if it’s fitness related we’re going to spread the word.

We had our meet and greet earlier this month and I left so inspired. I can’t tell you how much this was an answered prayer and He’s not even done. I’ve been praying about leaping into teaching and God just placed these awesome individuals for me to surround myself with. I know that He’s working and I can’t wait to see my future but I’m going to enjoy the now.

In this current stage where I don’t have a gym home, this community has become home perse. I don’t have to feel lonely while working out because there is always someone I can invite. That makes me feel happy. I'll still be searching for a gym home but for now I’m just going to figure out what I want to focus on.

I have a new fire that’s lit up inside of me. I’m ready to be mentored and challenged by my new sweaty friends. This is why community matters. In order to grow you have to surround yourself with like minded individuals and people that will keep you accountable. You can’t do life alone. I encourage you to find your community. Whether it’s a fitness group or a knitting club - find people who are into the same thing. I promise you’ll have new friends that will support you and guide you.

I will actively have to search out classes. I’ve already started attending events. A group of us went to @fitwithmartha ConfiDANCE cardio party with OV Dallas. I got to hang with my DFA friends and meet new friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I love how a simple yes has led me to a whole bunch more yes’. I hope you’ll come get sweaty with us throughout the year. I’d love to hang with you!
